| This
slate is quarried in Riofrío de Aliste, province of Zamora (Spain) belonging geologically to the "San Pedro de las
Herrerías" formation (Middle-upper Ordovician).
Its main minerals are sericite, chlorite and quartz, and it also contains other
opaque minerals an tourmaline.
Its
surface is smooth, getting very good pieces for roofs. The quarry presents two different types of slate, grey and black. Pizarras Riofrio
markets both types with the references
RF-20 and RF-10.
The RF-10
(black) has a great schistity which gives a flat cut, the grain
is medium and rough whith great opaqueness which makes it
very appreciated for roofing.
The RF-20
(grey) also has a great schistity, the grain is fine and smoother
than the black one it is very solid and also very suitable as
roofing material.
Thanks to
these physical and chemical characteristics this slate is very indicated
as material for roof of any shape and slope.
